IMPORTANT THOUGHTS FROM THE Thomas Jefferson Elementary School COMMUNITY
THINGS PEOPLE APPRECIATE
Office staff is supportive and seem to handle the parents well –
Anytime I send emails or ask the office staff for something they respond in a timely manner and do their best to help me with whatever I need. This make my job easier as a teacher, and I appreciate them!
I appreciate our principal. –
We have an amazing principal. Her passion for education inspires me greatly. There has been many exciting changes this year including Spirit Day with everyone across grade levels, Healthy Community Day, and etc.
Our school is using the four C’s toward common core. –
Our students are all encouraged to use creativty, critical thinking, communication, and collaboration. Teachers are being trained on these right brain skills which are then able to bring to their classrooms.
For past two years, I am extremely pleased with our connect to technology. –
We have an awesome leader who has, since she stepped in, moved our school in the direction of technology. Our school is being given frequent and timely principal chats which inform us as parents where we are and where we need to be with respect of technology.
Caring and friendly staff. –
I really like & appreciate that our daughter’s teacher as the rest of the staff have been nice, friendly and caring with our daughter and the rest of the kids. To me that’s a very important thing because this allows me to think that my daughter is in good hands during her school hours.
Lack of computer lab teachers and tech support –
Because of the new common core and having to teach digital literacy, I think it would be beneficial to have 1 or 2 computer lab teachers that are experts in that field. Also, the computer lab teacher would be responsible for making sure that the computers and headphones are always in working condit
Not enough support in the class to meet the needs of all the students. –
In my class as well as in many other classes, there are students that are at a wide variety of levels and skills. The ratio of ONE teacher to 27 or more students in a class makes it impossible to meet the academic needs of so many students. Not only are they at so many levels academically, they ar
The overwhelming task of designing curriculum teachers must do. The time –
needed to plan lessons.
Third graders in dual immersion getting enough education –
My only concern this year is if my third grader is getting enough education in English or math.
Split classes. –
It is a hardship to teach two grade levels in the same classroom. We are NOT given any additional pay for doing this. In addition, we no longer have assistants which makes the situation even more challenging. It feels like the district is squeezing out of me an entire additional teacher’s work.
OTHER THOUGHTS SHARED
I wish I could see more resources for our school. –
We have lot of good teachers and very smart students that attend Thomas Jefferson Elem. We don’t have good resources and challenges to offer our students.
I believe our children successeed only if we send uniform messages. –
I wish all disciplinary actions, technology usage, curriculum delivery would take on a more uniform shape. Dealing with the same discipline issues, exposure to technology, exposure to new curriculum, in each grade level must be independent of who the teacher is.
Concern about split class –
I feel, having split class is not a good idea. Because, Having 2 different grade’s students studying in the same class with the same teacher can affect on the students and teacher’s both concentration. (if possible) increasing teacher(s) and/or dividing students in different class is better. Thanks!
Positive Vibe –
There is a positive vibe at our school. It feels like the school is coming together as a team. Problems that arise are given the attention that they deserve. People seem happy.
English teachers –
English teachers in our school are too nice , and it seems that they don’t really care about our students English knowledge as much as they should.
