IMPORTANT THOUGHTS FROM THE Mountain Ave Elementary School COMMUNITY

THINGS PEOPLE APPRECIATE

Our Teachers and Staff –

We are fortunate to have not only involved parents, but great teachers and a supportive staff who try to make school a fun and safe place four our children to learn and develop.

Appreciation #1 –

Our family appreciates so much about Mountain Avenue. We appreciate all of the extra learning opportunities such as music, science, art, student body and leadership opportunities, beautification and spirit days, and the genuine care and involvement of the staff and faculty.

Instrumental Music, Honors Orchestra and Missoula –

These types of “extras” really take our school above and beyond.

The hard work put in by the volunteers. –

I only recently realized how much time volunteers put into our school. While the school does have many opportunities available to the students, many these opportunities would not be possible without the support of the volunteers.

Community –

Everyone works together to support the kids

SOME CONCERNS

I am deeply concerned about funding for our librarian and computer lab. –

An open library with a librarian is important to children at a school; fostering reading should be the most important item to an elem. school. Because students will be taking all the state tests on computers, it is the districts responsibility to teach children how to use a computer and type.

Class sizes are too big. Need better teacher/student ratio. –

school in transition –

Mountain Ave. has been a school of very high caliber, and we hope that it will remain so in the midst of possible changes due to the Sagebrush issue.

No teachers for the computer, arts, library –

We don’t have an art teacher or computer teacher, and I heard we won’t be able to use foundation $ for librarian any more. We need teachers in these areas.

Resolve Sagebrush Issue for Mountain Avenue –

The uncertainty of the Sagebrush potential transfer puts us in limbo. This uncertainty is creating anxiety about the future and is a distraction for everyone. Please make a decision, either to transfer or not to transfer, so our school can move on!

OTHER THOUGHTS SHARED

Parent volunteers are dedicated –

I really appreciate parents involvement at school and have been really impressed the way the families help the school when needed during school hours and after school hours

A great place to send your child –

Overall, Mountain is a great school. Strong parent participation is a hallmark of a great school, and Mountain allows parents to be very involved.

Need more in-class computer time –

If there is such a strong expectation for kids to be doing homework and taking tests on the computers, the schools need to provide more instruction and hands-on time for the kids to learn the computers DURING school (not just at home). Kids in Indiana are issued a laptop. Something to consider.

Great Year –

Its been a great year, and I really appreciate all the activities that our school and PTA does, like Missoula, assemblies, school plays, field trips like D.C., Pali Camp, etc., and other immersive learning such as the Fourth Grade Gold Rush or 3rd grade International Feast.

GREAT Staff members –

I witness very caring and concerned teachers who regularly go the EXTRA MILE to see the students succeed. The teachers at Mtn. Avenue are very dedicated.
