IMPORTANT THOUGHTS FROM THE John Muir Elementary School COMMUNITY

THINGS PEOPLE APPRECIATE

Teacher dedication –

Teachers have had so many things thrown at them this year, but they take them and roll with them the best they can. They understand the importance of their job and that they owe it to the kids. I am very proud of our teachers.

I love the Flag program it is the reason my child attends Muir. –

The start of the Foundation. –

It is a wise move to get parents involved in helping to bridge the gap between what we want for our children’s education and the limited resources the state provides.

Front office staff –

Everyone at the front office is always helpful, never rude or dismissive and always provides “service with a smile.” I appreciate that they know me and take time to know my son’s name.

i appreciate the crossing gaurd –

She don’t take nothing from nobody. I hope she gets paid well for what she does. And if she’s volunteering, that she deserves a medal or something. The crazy stuff she has to go through day to day needs to be appreciated. She’s very dedicated to protecting out children.

SOME CONCERNS

Outdoor space at the school –

Currently there is no green space or shade on the playground area. The children need a shady area to play along with a green space. The garden is wonderful and it would be great to have additional green space.

Shading for the hot summer months –

Heat is intense and there needs to be shading put in place.

With educational demands of common core, smaller class size is a must –

With common core, students are asked to communicate more, for example explaining steps in mathematical problems. With larger class sizes it is very difficult with so many students and various levels of abilities

Flag program space and resources –

The program is growing and truly valuable to Muir. The program needs additional space. The school plans are for a two story bldg where the bungalows exist. It is crucial to the growth of the program that the district move forward with the construction of the bldg and in my opinion it should house th

Through the years we have invested on computers, the lab & google chromes, –

and not having a full-time person to oversee all that is just not right. Students at a very early age should be taught and be hands on in these devices so that they can be comfortable & confident in taking tests.

OTHER THOUGHTS SHARED

We need arts programs. –

We are in dire need of grass so that our children can enjoy its beauty. –

Grass is an important area of concern because it reflects growth, nature and beauty. It is vitally important that each school within the GUSD have equall access to the same resources. As I drive by other schools I am concerned the lack of grass impedes access towards a quaility physical education

Thank you for everything you do! –

I am grateful to have such a wonderful school near where I live. I truly feel like the school is a part of my community and we all need to step up and support it.

school Infrastructure –

I would like to have a clear understanding of what are the plans to improve the school infrastructure. The summers are very hot a the children at school don’t have enough shading areas to play or rest.

Involvement –

Our school needs more parent and community involvement. It’s always the same parents helping at events and showing up at meetings. We need to figure out how to engage a broader group of families.
