IMPORTANT THOUGHTS FROM THE Glenoaks Elementary School COMMUNITY
THINGS PEOPLE APPRECIATE
I Appreciate how Glenoaks strives to enrich the Student’s experiences. –
I’m pleased that the students are exposed to enrichments such as computer lab, music classes, library etc. and pleased that this school attracts strong parent involvement. It’s important, especially in young children, to feed their imaginations and inspire a love of learning.
Principal, Admin staff and teachers –
An amazing group of educators! I tell to my friends that its a special type of person you have yo be to be able to teach at GES!
I really appreciate seeing so many parents volunteering and involvement. –
It allows teachers to spend more productive time interacting with our students. It makes you feel as a whole community that parents are concern not only for their own child but everyone else as well. Everyone is aim for the same goal which is allowing our students to get the best education possible.
Campus safety –
The security of Glenoaks Elementary School campus and the safety of our children depend on the vigilant watch of caring staff like Mr. Wing. He stands guard at the front gate, monitors all areas of the playground, remains in constant communication with other staff, and knows all the names of parents
Parent/ volunteer involvment. PTA organization and fund raising. –
The emphasis at our school seems to be primarily Language Arts (Reading). I would love to see more funds and programming towards developing a STEM program (science, technology, engineering, math). Compared to other districts and states, I feel that our students are at a great disadvantage!
I am very happy to see that the students are learning how to use computers. I think many of them are already doing so intuitively. It would be nice to have a dedicated computer teacher. Also, great that coding is being taught.
My last concern is that we need more building for classrooms. –
My kids have been in bungalow classrooms for the last 2 years. They are smaller than regular classrooms. I would like to see new buildings added and the bungalows to be gone.
Drop off driving discipline –
There are parents or guardians who are dropping off their students at unsafe areas.
Need for Common Core Worthy Texts and Media –
With the Common Core roll out there is a lack of good quality texts and media to support the standards.
OTHER THOUGHTS SHARED
Preserving the Arts is still important to our school! –
Glenoaks is still passionate about preserving the Arts (music, art classes, etc.) and our PTA and Foundation do many things to keep these things in our school.
Thank you! –
Thank you for our principal’s wonderful leadership. I really like the school wide positive behavior support. Kids enjoy receiving the Bee slip and being recognized for different positive behaviors and character values. My children are happy to be in this school community!
Glenoaks is a fabulous school. –
The school consists of staff and families that work hard to encourage all students to reach their highest potential.
Our school is fortunate to have a talented and caring staff. –
It makes all the difference in the world to be able to work at a school that values its staff, students, and parents. Glenoaks is a wonderful learning community in every sense of the word, and it is an honor to be a part of such a wonderful staff.
Great Community Feel –
I appreciate the community feel the school has. It starts with Eduardo, the crossing guard, and carries through to everyone you interact with at the school. The feeling of community from the school opens up for the parents to create that same feeling of community together.
