IMPORTANT THOUGHTS FROM THE Benjamin Franklin Elementary School COMMUNITY

THINGS PEOPLE APPRECIATE

I love our active PTA –

I am always blown away by the dedication our PTA has for our kids. The trouble and work they go through to make sure the kids enjoy their school is astonishing. I love our movie nights and especially the Father/Daughter, Mother/Son etc. nights they put on! So special!

I love our school community! –

I love our school community and the activities provided on and off the school campus for families like movie night, Harvest Fest, etc. I love the STAR classes available to our kids. I love the dedicated teachers we have.

Language Immersion –

My children have received a great gift in learning Italian and English. I feel they have been given something that I couldn’t have growing up. This is the goal, that my children have more opportunities.

The gracious teachers we have. –

The teachers guide our children through these years of development. I appreciate dedicated teachers who love our kids.

I appreciate the parent network and the schools encouragement of it –

Few public schools have anywhere near the parent involvement of ours and I attribute it greatly to the encouragement of the school as well as the amazing and specialized program.

SOME CONCERNS

The construction process at our site has not yet begun. –

We have been displaced and are suffering through many problems related to preparation for construction. It would be great to have a start date for construction and see a timeline so that we know that we are moving forward.

Shrinking class populations. –

Because of the unique nature of the language programs, replacing students lost to attrition is almost impossible. Given the program’s popularity and the number of wait-listed students, I’d love to see a second track for each language added, if not at Franklin, then at another elementary school.

With integration of technology in class. How do we get teachers on board? –

Many of the teachers do not have the knowledge or feel overwhelmed at the idea of integrating technology into their curriculum.

PLAYGROUND TIME – EXERCISE –

The kids already have such limited physical play time, I am concerned that with the playground construction they will have even fewer areas/choices. Giving the kids AMPLE (not just adequate) physical activity is vital to their ability to learn! also the school is too quick to trigger “walk and talk”

The continuity of the French program into Middle + High School –

OTHER THOUGHTS SHARED

I wish I knew what was going to happen with Middle school and how the –

curriculum will continue.

Great extra curriculars in music, drama and Newspaper club! –

My deepest gratitude to our parents both staff and volunteers who have pioneered these “extras”. They raise the bar of the overall education at school by a great deal.

We can’t wait for the new building. –

We think the new and improved school structure and school grounds will inspire the children. They will take pride in where they go to school.

Very professional, compassionate, caring teachers and staff. Hard working –

and dedicated to dual language program

We love Benjamin Franklin Elementary School! –

The kids are very happy at Franklin, and we as parents are thrilled with the education they’re receiving.
